Neopac Receives Certification for Paper Tube in Standard Recycling

The renowned PTS Institute has certified the PaperX FibreTop tube as technically recyclable in the conventional paper stream, marking another milestone in the Neopac Group's innovation strategy. This evaluation was conducted in accordance with the latest Recyclability Laboratory Test Method - Part I, Recycling mill with conventinal process CEPI, Version 3 (02/2025), as well as the latest 4evergreen Fibre-based Packaging Recyclability Evaluation Protocol, Version 1 (01/2025).

The tested tube consists of a paper laminate with an ultra-thin PE-EVOH inner coating and an outer dispersion layer. The evaluation showed that the entire tube, including its innovative flat tube shoulder and paper-based closure, meets the minimum requirements for disintegration, sieve yield, optical purity and adhesive separation. Neopac has thus demonstrated that sophisticated paper-based packaging with functional barrier can be manufactured in a recyclable manner.

"This first paper tube certification confirms that our PaperX technology enables us to strike the right balance between product protection, design, and sustainability — even under the most stringent recyclability requirements," explains Dr Philippe Kern, Director of R&D and QM at Neopac. "It is an important step on the way to genuine paper-based alternatives for tube packaging."

The results show that even a low-profile paper closure can achieve a sufficient proportion of recyclable paper—with further optimization potential for less extreme paper closure designs.

The certification was carried out in accordance with the CEPI Annex for double-sided coated materials, which emphasises the significance of the results.
